Joe owned the only store in his town, and Logan owned a farm with more than sixty acres of land. Economically, these men were all different, but strove just the same to give Janie what they could. Although Logan saw Janie as another hired hand on his farm, he knew that if he wanted to keep her he would still have to spoil her.
